Dealing with impostor syndrome in product
I bet you feel the impostor syndrome: “Someone will figure out I shouldn’t be where I am, because I am not as good as others think”.
If you’re feeling this, just know it's normal. A lot more people go through this then you think. Sheryl Sandberg (FB/Meta COO) herself felt it.
What can you do to deal with it?
1. Bring it up with your manager as soon as possible. Straight up. Immediately you'll realise...
2. your manager likely felt (or feels) this way too. Most managers have gone through it. You're not alone.
3. As your manager has been through this, they are the best to coach you into realizing you’re not an impostor. You’re exactly where you should be.
The reason we have too many real impostors as managers, is because the fake impostors didn’t get the necessary reassurance they were worthy, and got surpassed by those who weren’t.
