DJ Patil's note, a framework for product building
This is usually my final slide when I teach product management. It’s the last thing I want people to remember. I’ve adopted it as my own personal mental model.
It’s a note from DJ Patil, the first US Chief Data Scientist, summarizing his approach to tackling problems:
Dream in years
Plan in months
Evaluate in weeks
Ship daily
The framework for execution.
Prototype for 1x
Build for 10x
Engineer for 100x
The framework for scale.
What’s required to cut the timeline in 1/2?
What needs to be done to double the impact?
The framework for effectiveness.
You can use this to build products, plan your career, make decisions, you name it. I’m yet to see another set of rules that so clearly reduces the odds of failure.
PS: get me this as an NFT and I will pay whatever you want.
