Show your team what great looks like
If you manage people, you have one job: show them what “great” looks like.
Even if your entire team is operating at world-class level.
But your team is probably not operating at world-class level. Getting there is about inspiring them to execute “at a level of greatness”.
A manager once told me “to cook great food, you gotta have tasted great food”. I argue you can study what “great food” looks like, deconstruct it, and apply first principles to get there.
Managing towards world-class level is:
1. Understanding what great looks like.
2. Deconstructing into the variables that makes it great
3. Showing it to your team, both conceptually and through principles
4. Not letting them off the hook until great is the only thing they accept on their execution.
